Essence of Dholavira’s
Harappan Heritage
Discover Dholavira, a living relic of the Harappan era and UNESCO World Heritage treasure. Its remarkable reservoirs and stone channels still capture precious desert downpours, while tiered platforms and grand gateways hint at a city designed for daily life and festive gatherings. Here, every weathered stone speaks of ambition, innovation and the enduring spirit of ancient Gujarat.

UNESCO World Heritage Site of Dholavira
One of the largest and best-preserved urban settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, dating from around 3000 to 1500 BCE. Spread across approximately 47 hectares, this UNESCO‑inscribed site showcases a meticulously planned city, complete with a fortified citadel, middle town, lower town, and advanced water‑management systems like massive reservoirs and stormwater channels.

Archaeological excavations have unveiled remarkable artefacts, copper smelters, shell and semi‑precious beads, gold ornaments, and even one of the world’s earliest signboards bearing ten-character inscriptions in ancient Indus script.

ROAD THROUGH HEAVEN
On the way to Dholavira lies a breathtaking stretch known as the Road Through Heaven.

This 30 km causeway cuts across the shimmering salt marshes of the Great Rann, connecting Khavda to Khadir Bet. On either side, endless white salt plains sparkle in the sunlight by day and glow ethereally under moonlight, creating the illusion of driving between earth and sky.

During winter, flocks of migratory birds dot the wetlands, adding life to the surreal silence.

The road itself was strengthened as part of the Khavda–Khadir project, making this once-remote wonder more accessible. More than just a route, it is a journey through nature’s own masterpiece, preparing you for the timeless marvel of Dholavira.

WOOD FOSSIL PARK
Just a few kilometers from Dholavira lies the intriguing Wood Fossil Park, a window into Earth’s prehistoric past. Spread across nearly 18 square kilometers, this protected site preserves fossilized tree trunks believed to be over 100 million years old. As you walk along the site, you witness nature’s ability to transform wood into stone, each fossil a timeless sculpture shaped by geology. The park is not just a scientific marvel but also a journey into deep time, where history predates human civilization itself.
